Kind from Ocean to Sky
At Kosui Candle Co, the journey began as a lockdown hobby, an incentive to complete my LLM courseworks and as a desire to enjoy the sensory and memory-making that candle scents bring. Fast-forward more than 2 years with 100s of hours dedicated to research and testing, our candles are more than just your next piece of home decor, we are driving a home-based revolution for the better of the environment by ensuring that we are kind from sky to ocean.
Little did we know at the start of the journey that candles have a reality not quite as sweet as the vanilla frosting scents they emit. Cited in the UK Government’s 2019 Clean Air Strategy alongside aerosols and cleaning products, candles were highlighted as NMVOCs (non-methane volatile organic compounds). Our founder knew this needed to change, and that there is a way.
With the world collectively moving towards cleaner, sustainable and eco-conscious solutions, it was baffling that the big players in the candle industry had not addressed this. For some, with the candle choices presented in your typical department store, they have a sparkly low price in our increasingly tight economy, but everything comes at a cost. For candles, the cost is having a ‘mini rocket launch pad for NASA sitting on your coffee table’… Sounds crazy, right?
You may be in disbelief at this point but the hallowed and overly relied on paraffin wax is ever present in the industry for its ease of availability and low-cost nature. As a by-product of the crude oil process it's bad news for the environment and our health.
Enter Kosui Candle Co. We are on a journey to create a sustainable, natural, no-nasties candle that seeks to introduce transparency and bring you on the journey to our candle revolution without boycotting our much-loved age-old candles entirely!
